Further testing confirmed Otto had complex congenital heart defects, conditions that could put his life at risk without specialized care.<\/p>\n<p>Because the diagnosis came early, before Otto took his first breath, there was time to plan.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n[\/flex_box_row][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][basic_container bg_type=&#8221;solid&#8221; bg_overlay=&#8221;overlay-secondary&#8221; bg_color=&#8221;bg-light-blue&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Care Before Birth: Planning for a Life-Saving Start<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kristy was referred to the <strong>Royal Alexandra Hospital<\/strong>, where maternal-fetal medicine specialists and pediatric cardiologists worked together to closely monitor Otto\u2019s heart in utero. Advanced imaging, frequent scans, and coordinated care helped prepare for a high-risk delivery and the cardiac care Otto would need immediately after birth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Kristy\u2019s pregnancy progressed, it became clear Otto needed to be born where specialized teams were ready to act. In the final months, Kristy relocated to Edmonton so she could deliver at the Royal Alex.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Otto was born by emergency C-section\u2014strong, but with a fragile heart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because his care had been planned months in advance, teams were ready. Otto was stabilized, monitored in intensive care, and prepared for the next phase of his
