{"id":2752,"date":"2020-05-25T09:00:13","date_gmt":"2020-05-25T13:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.tbkdev.com\/dev\/davismartindale.com\/src\/?p=2752"},"modified":"2020-06-02T14:38:41","modified_gmt":"2020-06-02T18:38:41","slug":"canada-emergency-business-account","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stage.tbkdev.com\/dev\/davismartindale.com\/src\/canada-emergency-business-account\/","title":{"rendered":"CEBA \u2013 the $40,000 business loan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][basic_container container_size=&#8221;container container-narrow&#8221; bg_overlay=&#8221;overlay-light&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;2753&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221;][\/basic_container][basic_container container_size=&#8221;container container-narrow&#8221;][vc_column_text]On May 19, 2020,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pm.gc.ca\/en\/news\/news-releases\/2020\/05\/19\/prime-minister-announces-expansion-support-workers-and-small\">Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced<\/a>\u00a0that the Canada Emergency Business Account (\u201cCEBA\u201d) will be expanded to include businesses that are sole proprietors receiving income directly from their businesses, businesses that rely on contractors, and family-owned corporations that pay employees through dividends rather than payroll. We will post more details as information becomes available.<\/p>\n<p>The CEBA is among the business support measures introduced in the Federal Government\u2019s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan.\u00a0\u00a0 Working with financial institutions, the CEBA provides a loan of up to $40,000 to eligible businesses to assist with their immediate operating cash flow needs. If repaid prior to December 31, 2022, 25% of the amount loaned under the CEBA is forgiven. \u00a0For complete details and to apply, contact your business\u2019 current financial institution.<\/p>\n<h4>Canada Emergency Business Account<\/h4>\n<p>A government guaranteed loan to a maximum of $40,000 to help eligible businesses with operating costs, with the following terms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The loan is interest free, and 25% (i.e., $10,000) of the loan is eligible for loan forgiveness if 75% (i.e., $30,000) has been fully repaid on or before December 31, 2022. It also has no principal repayments during this period;<\/li>\n<li>If the loan is not repaid by December 31, 2022, it can be converted into a 3-year term loan, and will be charged an interest rate of 5%, payable monthly. It will still not incur any principal payment requirements until December 31, 2025; and<\/li>\n<li>Guaranteed by the Government of Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Eligible Businesses<\/h4>\n<p>In order to be eligible for the CEBA, a business must meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are no conditions on the type or form of business, however, the business must have a CRA Business Number and be operational on or before March 1, 2020.<\/li>\n<li>The business must have an active business bank account with a financial institution on or before March 1, 2020, and must be in good standing with the financial institution. Businesses that operate using a personal bank account will not be eligible.<\/li>\n<li>2019 payroll of $20,000 to $1,500,000 as reported in Box 14 of the business\u2019 2019 T4 Summary.<\/li>\n<li>One person with authority to bind the business must attest that the funds will be used for non-deferrable business expenses;\n<ul>\n<li>Types of eligible expenses include: payroll, rent, utilities, property tax, and scheduled payments on existing debt, etc.; and<\/li>\n<li>Examples of expenses\u00a0<u>not<\/u>\u00a0eligible include: prepayment of existing debt, management bonuses, dividends, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The following types of organizations do\u00a0<u>not<\/u>\u00a0qualify for the CEBA:\n<ul>\n<li>Government, or government owned organizations;<\/li>\n<li>Business owned by a person holding political office; and<\/li>\n<li>A union, charity, or religious organization, except to the extent that it, or an organization owned by it, generates a portion of its revenue from taxable sales or services as reported in a T2 or T3010 Tax Return.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Other Important Information<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A business can only apply for the CEBA at one financial institution, and that must be its\u00a0<u>primary<\/u>\u00a0financial institution:\n<ul>\n<li>The primary financial institution is where the business holds its every day business banking account; and<\/li>\n<li>Attempting to apply at more than one financial institution may result in legal consequences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Receipt of a loan through the CEBA does not preclude the business from participating in other COVID-19 Economic Response Plan programs.<\/li>\n<li>Each business, i.e., having a distinct Federal Business Number, can apply for the CEBA:\n<ul>\n<li>Associated corporations do not share the CEBA.<\/li>\n<li>Each business must make a separate application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>No credit check will be performed during the approval process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Application process<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Businesses must apply directly through their primary financial institution<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications are submitted\u00a0<u>online only<\/u>\u00a0\u2013 refer to the financial institution\u2019s website for instructions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Financial institutions expect to be able to begin accepting applications by April 9, 2020.<\/li>\n<li>See your financial institution for their timeline and for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/basic_container][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][basic_container container_size=&#8221;container container-narrow&#8221;][vc_separator border_width=&#8221;5&#8243; el_width=&#8221;70&#8243;][\/basic_container]<div class=\"clearfix global-margin-y\"><\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][basic_container]<div class=\"post-listing blogs-items blogs-no-category-sidebar blogs-items-layout-\"\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"post-listing__item\" href=\"https:\/\/stage.tbkdev.com\/dev\/davismartindale.com\/src\/tax-payments-extended\/\">\r\n\t\t\t\t<div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"h3 post-listing__item__title\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\tCRA Announces Extension\t\t\t\t\t<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"post-listing__item__meta\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tJuly 29, 2020\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Payment deadlines extended and interest relief on outstanding debts.
